The Royal Castle in Warsaw

The Royal Castle in Warsaw, located on Castle Square at the entrance to the Old Town, served for centuries as the official residence of Polish monarchs and the seat of the Parliament. It was here that the Constitution of 3 May 1791 — the first in Europe — was drafted and adopted. The castle was completely destroyed during World War II, but was meticulously rebuilt between 1971 and 1984 in one of the most significant reconstruction efforts in post‑war Poland. Today it functions as both a museum and a state ceremonial venue. Visitors can explore the royal apartments, the Senator’s Hall, European art collections including works by Rembrandt, and the famous Canaletto paintings used during the post‑war rebuilding of Warsaw. The Royal Castle forms part of the UNESCO‑listed Historic Centre of Warsaw.
